Spring Roses

I have mixed feelings about the rose bushes in our neighbourhood. On the one hand, they are incredibly gorgeous in full bloom, and smell beautiful on warm evenings. On the other, they guzzle water during the driest part of the year. I am all for growing roses if you’re in the right climate, but they’re just not environmentally appropriate in Australia, and they can look a bit out of place here too. A lot of people do grow native plants, as we have for the most part, but they are less dramatic and don’t tend to be planted near the perimeter fence, for some reason. In any case, I had to capture these while they were in full bloom:
